How to do an Eden campaign.

First, you need a map with some territories to fight over. For nice post-apocalypti city maps, go here, for example: http://blog.microdungeons.com/search/lab...pocalyptic

Or you could take the map of Australia and flip it around - that works, too.

Draw a bunch of territories onto the map. A city works nicely with blocks.

Give each territory a VP value between one and ten and also give some a special effect that you get if you own the territory. Sample special effects:

Water source: You get 5 more points when choosing your warband

A Good View: You get an extra SP

A Defensive Position: If you are attacked here, your opponent has to present three Mission cards and you get to choose a mission for him from amongst those

etc.

Choose starting territories. These are your "capitals" and they should have a VP value of ten and also the special effect of giving you 10 extra points for choosing a warband.

Each campaign turn you get a pin. The capitals already have a pin. You put a pin in a territory that neighbours a territory that you own. If a territory has two or more pins on it, you fight and the winner's pin stays. You have 90 points (plus ten from the capital if you still have it) and the game goes normally modified by the special effects of the territories you own.

If you win, you gain five VPs (in addition to gaining the VPs from the territory), if you lose, you gain two.

Agree on a VP value that is needed for campaign victory.

Have fun!

Any thoughts? Anyone come up with nice special effects for territories? Anyone wish to draw a map with sample territories?

Hi All,

Played a few games last friday, and now that we are familiar with the rules the games just rocks !!!

We both played with the starterboxes.

Bamaka hat to collect 9 tokens and Jokers hat to kill Bamaka's for VP.

We quickly realised the reason why you only play on a 60cmx60cm table. Ours ist 120cmx120cm (because of the other games we play).

Jokers setup first in the right corner and Bamaka in the left corner.
The Jokers didnt do anything except running around behind the Bamaka, who picked up the Tokens and ran away from Jokers.

The last 2 turns the Jokers finally got in to combat...

Jokers lost badly.....

In the second game (Sorry no Pics) the Bamakas had to get to the center of the board and the Jokers had to Loot the Dead.
So the Jokers ran to the center of the board and waited for the Bamaka's to come.
This was a very obvious win for the Jokers...

Some thoughts on the game...
We don't see the point of the Betting SP points who goes first? Bamaka is very fast and I betted a few times to get the first turn but got interupted easily with Bamaka having ridicoulus fast fighters.
In the end we both bet no SP and let the dice decide.....

We also don't like the Missions, they kinda very much al the same. I bought the Convoy and the Jokers starter and the missions who are in there, 3 of them say kill you're opponent for VP. Then there is the Looting mission we're I also have to kill my opponents...
We are absolutly going to make our own scenarios (we already checked those from Malifaux, wich seem to work fine for Eden)

We also decided to play larger games, 150 or 200 pints, this because of the size of ours board, and the whinning of my Bamaka opponent because he only can filed 3 miniatures

Overal this is a great game, lots of tactic and fun.
This game has become a regular in our group together with Warmahordes and Malifaux.
Great game.....

Whew. I'm just back from Ropecon, the biggest con in the nordic countries with almost 4000 visitors per year (I also believe it's the biggest non-commercial con in Europe). Aside from taking part in a Vampire the Eternal Struggle CCG tournament, I demoed Eden the whole weekend. 20 demos and now I'm pretty exhausted. Even lost my voice Saturday evening, but luckily got it back in time for Sunday's demos.

The response for phenomenal. There was always someone I was demoing to so that I barely had the time to eat just one very quick meal on the whole of Saturday (demoed from 10 to 22).

But it was fun! People loved Eden and most I demoed to started either strongly considering or outright said that they would get a force. They loved the small number of minis required and the small table space needed. And it was fun to see that people not very familiar with minis games took to the game extremely well, while veterans started instantly pondering on the possibilities of the system. The rules are clean and simple (for a minis game) but offer so much. Many commented on the "board game" style design philosophy with the "game" aspect coming before "simulation" and the innovative systems such as bidding strategy points for the initiative and so on.

I went with a very simple approach of three minis per side and simple mission cards starting in media res with the minis already pretty close to one another and playing for just three rounds. I quickly explained the scope of the game and that the demo was smaller than usual and then went over the stat card fronts noting that there's a lot of abilities in the back but that I would mention them when they became appropriate. I introduced the fighters in general terms and explained the missions.

Then I went over the strategy points and bidding for initiative, action points and the three basic actions. All of this took very little time and then the game was under way. I played with the Matriarchy against the Resistance unless there were two people taking part in the demo in which case I sat next to the table. Interestingly I managed to lose every single game even though I didn't actually try to do that - I mean, I didn't aim to win at all costs but wasn't doing anything superbly stupid, either. When I demoed for two people, the win rates of the two sides were pretty even.

But yeah, I guess my point here is that the game sells itself really nicely. If you wish to build a community, offer to demo the game and if the response is anything like it was here, you'll get a lot of players.

Next I'm thinking of holding a tournament during the fall.

I wish to thank Taban for their handsome sponsoring of the event - I ended up raffling two starters among the demo participants (and advertising this also drew some crowds).

Here's a couple of pictures:

The gaming board was a bit on a budget version (four one euro 30x30cm pieces of cork stuck onto pizza box cardboard). This was because I had ordered a rubber gaming mat from Zuzzy but it hasn't arrived quite yet and a friend of mine with a better board was unable to attend, so I had to throw something together the night before. And the scenery is similarly not very superb - I really need to build some post-apocalyptic terrain. But the minis sold the game on a visual level so it still worked out ok.

Hi, i move this topic here cause I think is a more correct place for it.
I going to comment my battles. If some experienced players want to teach me so I can learn right tactics and to use my fighters properly.

Excuse me for my english, I know it's bad >_<

------------
My First Game:

I played Capture with the starter against a mission where he need to find a tunnel to escape. He deploys the resistance starter -the boy and robot and with chelsea.

I had hard times first turns, chelsea killed Kunoichi, and second turn killed the grey daimyo >_<

I let my fighters without Ap to deffend (error!!) and allways forgot to use a Tactical card at the start of the turn. (So I couldnt use the contaminated zone the rest of the game )

But later, with Execution, and the Ronin I captured the woman with the cannon, and next turn I used smoke to protect myself against all the enemies. Then thanks to secret objectives, he run with all of his fighters to the tunnel and escaped, granting him 75 VP. But i move to my deploy area with the captured girl, so i won 100 VP!!

First real game and a Win. Was a lot of Fun, but i need to learn to play well my fighters. I had much to learn.

My Second Game:

Again against the resistance. He plays a mission where they need to follow some clues at the center of the battleground, (Following the tracks). I played prioritary target.

He plays Jimmy and robot, Ashton, Alice and Chelsea.
I played ISC starter. I selected chelsea as prioritary target (bad idea >_<)

First turn i played Contaminated area to difficult the enemy movement and advanced with Daimyo, giving one aditional AP to the ronin. (Chelsea was close to him). My enemy ran with chelsea out of my area, and regroup his team.
I try ranged attack with Kunoichi, but was useless, and then Ashton the cyborg charges me, leaving my robot-ninja with only one hit at head >_<
in adition, Jimmy captures one of the tracks earning 25 VP... hard times for me.

Second turn I bet high for iniciative, so I could use Lure with Kunoichi and move him to safer place. I learned not to use all AP with my robots. I start the turn with kunoichi, now close to Jimmy and killed him in one roll
Chelsea charges Kunoichi, but i dodged. She in addition push me close to a wall. Danger!
My ronin take the turn to exchange attacks with the cyborg. Both getting hurted. I used smoke screen so alice couldn't charge me.

Next turn my opponent used a card to activate the robot without Jimmy's help, so he was my priority. I charged and killed the robot with my daimyo. Again, I give one AP to ronin.
Ashton tried to kill my ronin, who was healed with a Repair. He uses 2 attacks, and fail to disengage.
Kunoichi was on danger, so I disengage and use the Jump skill to go away from chelsea.
Chelsea comes to my daimyo area and collect another track.
My ronin killed Ashton... and we couldn't play more turns.

So... he collects 2 tracks 25 + 35 = 60 VP
I killed ashton, Jimmy and robot 30 + 15 + 10 = 55 VP

Was a close victory, allmost draw. I learned not to select chelsea as a target. If would had chosen Jimmy or the robot (easy targets to kill) I would been victorious.
Also I learned to mantain my robots alive all the time possible, running if necesary, to fight later, very important.
Again, the smoke is awesome, and daimyo was usefull in this battle with his +1AP. I need to learn to use the Kunoichi. And the Circular strike of the ronin still seems useless... will see.

Overall was a very enjoying game

So we had our second game of Eden last week, this time playing at the club to show off how super-sexy the models are..... they did get a lot of attention

Anyway, it was the starter boxes but Covoy had Georg in place of the guy with the boomerang (as he appears to be quite, quite useless). I don't remember the whole game, but here's a run down with the juciest parts....

Missions were: Convoy - Infiltration, ISC - Excavations.

Turn 1

Everyone moves around a bit. We were playing on a sewer board (terraclips) so terrain was very important (as it wasn't so easy to just 'run past' anything). In sight of this, I moved my Ronin to block a doorway leading into my deployment zone, the Kunoichi was to the right on her own and, thanks to her great speed, managed to get mid-board and started to dig up the excavations there, the Daimyo hung back and started some excavations of his own. Most of the Convoy were set to face off against the Daimyo and Ronin, with only Angela and Leo out on his left flank. I kind of hoped I could just ignore them and let her make her VP's while killing everything else......

Turn 2

A bit more facing off happens, he spends a bit of time redeploying his models after realising he'd have to smash through two giant robots to get where he was going! So Georg starts to make for the centre of the board , towards the Kunoichi and another door leading to my deployment zone. Daimyo and Kunoichi continue to dig. Otto decides 'to hell with it', revs his chainsaw and plunges into the Ronin! The Ronin gets the upper hand and manages to damage Otto's arms......but not enough..... on the riposte, Otto chops off both the Ronin's legs! Leaving the drone flailing about helplessly on the ground before shutting down (and losing me his excavation pts.....GRRRR!!!!!!) OTTO MUST DIE!!!!!!

Turn 3

After the untimely demise of the Ronin, the Kunoichi realises she can't leave the Daimyo in a room with Otto and Freidrich (who I also learned to fear in our last game) so she gives up the dig and moves in to support the Daimyo, sadly leaving Angela free reign to 'infiltrate' without a problem. Kunoichi manages to get some more damage on Otto and takes his torso down to wounded..... that should help Otto, realising his fate is near, tries to get messy with his Chainsaw against the Daimyo but, luckily, the Daimyo doesn't just survive but also finishes off Otto! Freidrich makes for the central door and Leo comes out of nowhere to charge the Daimyo (annoying little puppy! You'll see why soon....)

Turn 4

I play 'Blow below the belt' and hope for the best..... before realising that it affects me too! Well that's that plan ruined! I have a tough decision....do I run to the excavation sites and continue the dig or do I try to hold off Freidrich and Georg? My decision was made for me as the Daimyo completely and utterly failed to disengage from Leo! (in hindsight I could have used 'crushing'... oh well). So, after that and a quick calculation I realised that it was impossible for me to actually win. The Kunoichi and Daimyo would not be able to dig enough to beat the 2 infiltrates he had left so all I could do was get the Kunoichi in contact with George and Freidrich and hope she could stop them disengaging for two turns.....

Turn 5

..needless to say, she failed! Angela got back into the action and finished of the Kunoichi (who had previously been damaged by Freidrich - forgot to mention) so Fried and Georg managed their infiltration in the last turn.

I don't remember exactly what the VP's finished at, but I think it was 30 -75 or something like that..... anyway, very close game right up until the end! Very enjoyable though.

Excavations is really, really hard..... not only do you have to spend a lot of time digging but losing your VP's when a model dies is just punishing! I feel models like the Komuso and Mamushi would be very helpful for this mission.....

Seriously enjoying Eden though, it has a hell of a lot of depth to it and is a lot more tactical that most games out there at the moment (on par with Warmachine I'd say, but without the hefty price tag!)

Had 2 games this evening, one with a player who had played once before and one intro game.

The initial game was 135 points.
ISC using the box set plus the Yellow K
Jokers with Vlad, Yuri, Ievgueni, Vassilev, Anton and Yorg.

I have no idea what the ISC mission was but I took the Joker mission that comes with the later releases and was after table quarters.

Initial setup had Jokers spread out in a line with Yorg, Yuri and Vladd on the left with the others strung out to their right (Vassilev on the end).

The ISC all bunched up opposite Yuri and the gang. I was a bit worried as the last thing I wanted was to be hit with a whole load of metal nastiness at once!

The game played fluidly with the Assassin robot running in and badly damaging Vladd as he advanced. Luckily these were body hits and didn't reduce any statistics.

In response Vladd damaged the bot and Yorg (who is outstandingly brutal) thumped it into next week. Yorg's ability to lower the VIG of adjacent targets is exceptionally useful, especially if you can get Anton in on the same target later in the round . . oh yes.

The other robots advanced but did little. Vass and Iev moved to occupy the right quarter and the enemy deployment zone.

Following rounds saw the Yellow K drain AP from many Jokers - a very useful ability . . I can see this being evil if used on a model that has just moved and left a defensive AP on itself.

Some flaming and a molotov later the bots were lightly damaged and the Jokers pretty much ok, just not moving much.

The final rounds saw the Carmine Ronin run in and dice Vlad (circular strike is awesome) only to be wasted by lucky hits from Anton teamed up with Yorg. The Yellow K went down to fire damage and Grey Daimyo to a battering after it killed Yorg.

End result was a Joker clear win (making it 2 for 2). However there were several really dirty tricks played by the ISC that definitely added to the game and give promise for future games. So far I do think that the Joker numbers makes a huge difference.

I'll write more, and hopefully more coherent, reports later.
