Depends on what you want to express, yes, slither/-ing is a possible collocation with snakes (and probably the most used one as well, espc. since Harry Potter ). If you want to express the slow way of getting near a target I would suggest creep (as snails creep as well). If I translated la reptation correctly, creeping would be more accurate, but I admit this is nitpicking.
