Gameboard
Hi there,
has anybody made experiences with a gameboard which is 90 x 90 cm? I think the most of the missions are made for a 60 x 60cm gameboard. But is there a possibility to compensate this with a higher number of points playing (eg. 150 to 250)? Any suggestions? |

RE: Gameboard
I would be wary of adding to the depth of the playing field. If you feel that you need more space for a 200-point battle, I would make the field 90cm wide, but keep the depth to 60cm. This is because 90% of the fighters have the same max movement of 30cm per round, which is important to the game balance.
Changing the size of the table will skew the missions no matter what, but they should be mostly playable on a 90x60 board. However, if you wish to go for bigger points and bigger boards, one possibility would be to come up with custom scenarios. Resistance is non-futile. |

RE: Gameboard
Changing the size of the gameboard or/and the teams is of course possible.
But a Lem' said, it will be at the expense of Mission balance. Special scenarii can fix this, but we haven't developped that part of the game yet, as we're concentrating on the standard 60x60, 100 points balance, so it will be up to you to try ![]() ![]() |

RE: Gameboard
Hi there,
thanks for the answers. me and friend will try to play on 90x90 cm. We#re going to increase the number of points and rearrange the missions in a Malifaux-style by flipping for a mission. The missions will be the missions every fraction could play. Sorry, but we don't like playing on a 60x60 gameboard. I dosen't look like tabletop and it's to close to boardgames like monopoly or anything else. ;-) |

RE: Gameboard
Well, a small gameboard may look like a regular boardgame, but I assure you that it has everything a good tabletop game needs, and there's no time lost spending 30 minutes just to get near your enemy. The bloodbath can start immediately (but don't get me wrong, movements and positions are crucial)
![]() Give it a try once, just to see how it works. And it is quite easy to store and bring to any event (tournament/conventions/...), even using public transportation (we regularly oganize tournaments in Paris, with up to 20 players and two of us can bring enough gameboards and scenery to play, using the subway. Take that GW ! ![]() On the missions subject, I'd advise to use the specific missions rather than the generic ones when playing over 100 points, as some generic missions (DGIN gun turrets, Ancient artifacts for example) will stand no chance if your opponent has a good old killing mission, or even worse, the Survive in hostile ground mission. ![]() |

RE: Gameboard
Puh, thanks for the answers. It is a bit disappointing, because we read - by starting Eden - in one of the rulebooks, that the board shoul habe a min. lenght of 60 cm and a maximum of 120 cm. So we thought to take the middle and built one of 90 cm. But in the other rulebooks, we got with new starters, this wording was erratated.
Hmh, playing tabletop is a chance for me to dive in another world and give the models a chance to discover this new world. (A bit like role-playing.). And so the gameboard has to have it's size, you know? We're playing here a lot of Warmachine and Malifaux stuff. (No GW!) And Malifaux seems to have a very little gameboard with 90 x 90. And now going on 60 x 60 with Eden seems to be very hard for me. It means that the world is getting smaller. I can understand that there are points speaking for a small gameboard (organisation, tournaments, transportation), and I'll promise that we'll try to play the game on a regular size, but... But can't you imagine the fascination playing Eden on a much bigger board with much more models? Think of it only as an option for gamers like me (and some of my friends) that we'd like to see rules in Eden for bigger games on bigger boards with more models struggling to survive. But by the way. I'm not only grumping. I like the miniatures and the rules very much. Carry on. |

RE: Gameboard
I understand your point of view, and it's true that we don't impose a restricted gameboard in the rules. But it's also true that the game - at its core - is best played on a small gameboard.
We don't see it as a way to shrink the world though, but it's meant to represent the heated battle of a small force encountering foes, so the scale is set accordingly. And the 'story' of the battle unfold itsef, sort of, with the Missions. Your Convoy scouts, sent to the nearest water tank for supply find themselves suddenly attacked by fearsome Drones, capturing your comrades as you try to defend your ressources. A small Matriarchy force, bringing back recently discovered holy relics, is ambushed by Jokers eager to loot some good weapons (and/or having their ways with the Sisters). Really, the world is there, the size makes it a fast paced game, where immediate actions and decisions must be taken in order to overcome your opponent. That's the intentions we like to emphasize too (along with making it an easy game to store/transport). But your point of view is indeed valuable. We like to hear that sort of experience and desire from our players, because it reflects lots of different things from the community. Do tell us how it turned out with bigger teams and wider board. Who knows, maybe the next book will have specific rules for bigger battles ![]() ![]() |

RE: Gameboard
Ok, thanks for the answers. My friend has put some photos of my gaming table in the forum
http://www.taban-miniatures.com/forum/sh...hp?tid=840 It was a lot of fun to built this. I've built it without having played Eden at this time. But after reading the rules and looking at the figures I had to make a gaming table. We'll have a look at playing at different sizes and will post our experiences later in this forum. ![]() ![]() |

RE: Gameboard
We've been using reversible 60x 60 boards and they've worked really well for all the missions we've played. We have used larger points games as well and the 60x 60 have never seemed too small, loads of terrain helps massively too.
I'd recommend looking at Secret Weapon's tablescape kick starter campaign for modular boards, these will allow huge variation building your boards and can be assembled to any size.[/align] |

RE: Gameboard
We found that 2x2 can seem a bit cramped at times, especially considering how much terrain we like to use. Generally we play on a 3x3 board, it doesn't really impact the game that much since deployment is drawn from the center line. We also assume the 'corners', if needed for any missions, are still a 2x2 square in the middle. Having the extra room really just allows for the game to be more visually impressive. For casual play, I prefer 3x3 for most games.
